Institute for OneWorld Health

The Institute for OneWorld Health is the first nonprofit pharmaceutical company in the United States. The Institute's mission is to advance global health by developing safe, effective, and affordable new medicines for people with infectious diseases in the developing world.

Building on decades of pharmaceutical innovation and research, the Institute for OneWorld Health is taking the pharmaceutical industry in a new direction. We are one small example of how the United States’ world leadership in scientific research and medical expertise can be deployed to improve the health of the developing world. We tap into the pragmatic idealism of a generation of pharmaceutical scientists and professionals eager to engage in work that has a truly global impact. We believe OneWorld Health to be at the forefront of the most important shift in the application of scientific inquiry towards global health in our lifetime.

Our approach is simple. Assemble an experienced and dedicated team of pharmaceutical scientists. Identify the most promising drug and vaccine candidates. Develop them into safe, effective and affordable medicines. Then partner with companies, non-profit hospitals and organizations in the developing world to conduct medical research on new cures, manufacture and distribute newly approved therapies that will impact the health of millions of people.

We challenge the assumption that pharmaceutical research and development is too expensive to create the new medicines that the developing world desperately needs. By partnering and collaborating with industry and researchers, by securing donated intellectual property, and by utilizing the scientific and manufacturing capacity of the developing world, OneWorld Health can deliver affordable, effective and appropriate new medicines where they are needed most.
